We recognize the importance of parent and community involvement and offer many volunteer opportunities to help support our Group, your child, and our community!

π Volunteer Screening Process
All volunteers complete screening before joining, including:
β A conversation with two Scouters from the 91st.
β Police record check & references.
β Initial training to prepare for their role.
Once cleared, volunteers can select a position that fits their skills and availability!
π Youth Volunteers (Ages 14+)
We welcome youth volunteers aged 14+, offering them a chance to develop leadership skills and give back to the community.
π« High school students can earn volunteer hours toward graduation!

14+ can join the Beaver Colony & Cub Pack Teams.
β
16+ can join the Scout Troop Team.
Youth volunteers (ages 14-17) follow a slightly different screening process, and their parent must register them before they begin.

Volunteering with the 91st Toronto Scout Group is a rewarding way to support youth, build leadership skills, and contribute to the community. Whether you prefer to help behind the scenes or lead Scouting adventures, thereβs a role that fits your time and interests!
Staff Scouter β Behind-the-Scenes Support

Best for: Those who want to help but not lead youth directly.
β
Time Commitment: A few hours a week.
π What Youβll Do:
β Assist with event setup, sign-ins, emails, and logistics.
β Support fundraising, website updates, and administrative tasks.
β Simply being present allows more youth to participate in activities.
Patrol Scouter β Small-Group Leadership
β
Best for: Those who want to engage with youth but donβt want to plan activities.
β
Time Commitment: A few hours a week, attending weekly meetings and camping trips.
π What Youβll Do:
β Guide a small patrol of 5-7 youth, following pre-planned activities.
β Encourage participation and help Scouts navigate challenges.
β No need to plan future activitiesβjust show up and support youth!
Weekend Scouter β Supporting Camps & Weekend Adventures

Best for: Those who want to help with Scouting but canβt commit to weekly meetings.
β
Time Commitment: Occasional weekend activities, including camps and special events.
π What Youβll Do:
β Assist with overnight camps, day hikes, and outdoor adventures.
β Help set up tents, cook meals, and lead weekend activities.
β Ensure a safe and fun experience for youth during weekend events.
β Join the Pack or Troop for seasonal trips, providing extra support when needed.
Section Scouter β Leading the Pack

Best for: Those who enjoy running games, projects, and scouting adventures.
β
Time Commitment: A few hours a week, plus extra time for activity planning.
π What Youβll Do:
β Lead a patrol and sometimes larger section activities (up to 20 youth).
β Collaborate with other Scouters to plan engaging adventures.
β Help create a positive and fun scouting experience.
β Contact Section Scouters take on additional coordination responsibilities.
Committee Officer β Strategic Leadership

Best for: Those who want to help lead the 91st Scout Group through fundraising, recruitment, and administration.
β
Time Commitment: Around 2 evenings a week during the Scouting year.

β Support long-term planning, budgeting, and community engagement.
β Oversee fundraising efforts to keep Scouting accessible for all youth.
β Help with high-level decision-making to ensure a safe and thriving Scout Group.

How to Register as a Volunteer with Scouts Canada
Volunteering with the 91st Toronto Scout Group is a rewarding opportunity to support youth development. Follow these steps to complete your registration:
π Step 1: Create or Log Into Your MyScouts Account
β Go to MyScouts and log in or create an account.
β Click "Register As Volunteer" from the left menu to start your application.
π Step 2: Choose Your Section
β Enter your postal code and select the age group you want to volunteer with (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, or Group Committee).
β Click Find Groups, then select "91st Toronto Group" from the list.
β Click "Register As a Volunteer", ensuring you have 5 references with email contacts ready.

π Step 3: Complete Your Profile & Accept Terms
β Confirm your registration year (you can start immediately or in September).
β Select "[SECTION TYPE] Scouter" unless you're the lead Scouter.
For Committee members choose the appropriate Role
β Accept four mandatory terms and conditions, electronically signing your application.
β Provide 5 references, including a co-worker, supervisor, or youth-serving organization colleague (family members cannot be used).
π Step 4: Sign the Code of Conduct
β After submitting your application, youβll be prompted to sign the Code of Conduct.
β If it doesnβt appear immediately, log out and back inβit should be your landing screen.
π€ Step 5: Interview Process
β Youβll be contacted for an in-person interview with two Scouters from the 91st.
β This conversation confirms your commitment and suitability for the role.
π Step 6: Police Record Check (PRC) & Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)
β Adults (18+) must complete both PRC and VSS, even if done elsewhere (e.g., school, coaching).
β Toronto residents (postal codes starting with "M") apply through Toronto Police Service (TPS).
β First-time volunteers must complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), covering both PRC and VSS.

π Renewal: PRC must be renewed every 3 years via MyBackCheck.

π Step 7: Complete Your Online Training
To be an active volunteer, you must complete:
β Scouting Fundamentals (Required before wearing the uniform).
β Wood Badge 1 for the Canadian Path (Completed within the first year).
β³ Total Training Time: Approx. 5 hours, divided into small sessions.
πΉ Access Training: Log into MyScouts, click "David Huestis Learning Centre", and start Scouting Fundamentals.
πΉ Respect in Sport Training (mandatory every 5 years, fee covered by 91st Toronto).
