Cub Scout Badges

Cub Scout Badge Program: Adventure, Challenge & Recognition!

Cub Scouts embark on exciting challenges, build new skills, and grow through adventure.

Like older Scouts—Scouts, Venturers, and Rovers—Cubs earn badges as recognition for their efforts, achievements, and teamwork. Since Cub Scouting began, Scouts Canada has developed a balanced badge program that helps Cubs take ownership of their learning and push their limits in exciting ways. Now, thanks to the Canadian Path, Cubs can choose their own adventures and be recognized for their accomplishments!

Cub Scout Badges – What's the Difference?

Not all badges are the same—each has a special meaning!

🏕️ Camp & Event Badges

These are souvenirs from special events, camps, and trips. While they don’t go on the uniform, Cub Scouts often sew them onto a camp blanket or banner as a fun reminder of their adventures!

🏅 Achievement Badges

These badges represent skills, learning, and personal accomplishments. Cub Scouts earn them by completing challenges, mastering new skills, and exploring activities that push them further. These go on the uniform, proudly displaying progress in Scouting!

Each badge tells a story—which ones will your Cub Scout collect next?

Types of Cub Scout Badges

Cub Scouts earn badges to celebrate their adventures, skills, and personal development. These badges mark important milestones and encourage goal-setting, teamwork, and learning. From exploring the outdoors to demonstrating leadership and creativity, each badge tells the story of a Cub Scout’s journey. Whether earned through group activities, individual challenges, or special projects, badges give Scouts a sense of accomplishment while preparing them for new adventures ahead!

Personal Progression Badges - Level Up Your Adventure!Progression Journey

Cub Scouts grow, explore, and take on bigger challenges every year—and your Progression Badge marks each step of your journey!

Each year, Cub Scouts earn a new badge to show how much they’ve learned, explored, and achieved in the program. These badges celebrate your progress as you level up in skills, leadership, and outdoor adventure!

Your Cub Scout Progression Journey

🌟 Runner (Age 8) – First-year Cubs start their adventure, learning teamwork, Scouting values, and how to explore the outdoors.
🌟 Tracker (Age 9) – Second-year Cubs become explorers, mastering navigation, leadership, and survival skills in nature.
🌟 Howler (Age 10) – Third-year Cubs take the lead, guiding younger Cubs, tackling bigger challenges, and preparing for Scouts

Every Cub Scout is on an adventure—what will you achieve this year?

Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) Badges

Outdoor Adventure Skill badges

The Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) program introduces Beaver Scouts to essential outdoor skills, helping them build confidence and experience in nature.

There are 9 different skill pathways, each focusing on important camping, survival, and adventure techniques. Cub Scouts build on what they learned in Beaver Scouts and these skills continue through Scouts, Venturer Scouts, and Rover Scouts.

Each OAS pathway has 9 stages, with each stage building on previous skills, knowledge, and experiences.

✔ Cub Scouts continue where they left off at Beaver Scouts generally Stage 2  or Stage 3 in each pathway, developing foundational outdoor skills.
✔ New Cub Scouts start at Stage 1 and quickly level up through the stages to join their peers.
✔ Older Cubs with extra interest in a specific pathway may be able to complete Stage 4 or even 5, if they demonstrate advanced knowledge or experience.
✔ Stages are skill-based, not age-based—progression depends on what the youth know, practice, and accomplish, rather than just how old they are.

By following OAS progression, Beaver Scouts gain real-world outdoor skills, preparing them for new adventures and greater challenges as they move through the Scouting program.

Personal Achievement Badges (PAB)

Cub Scouts get to choose their own adventure with Personal Achievement Badges (PABs)! Unlike other badges, these aren’t assigned—instead, Cubs set their own goals based on the badge theme, making each challenge unique and personal.

Cubs can earn 16 different Personal Achievement Badges, designing an experience that matches their interests and pushes them to grow!

Set 4 personal goals within the badge theme.
Complete goals at home or with the Pack—learning happens everywhere!
Earn badges more than once—as long as each adventure is new and challenging!

Every challenge is created by the Cub Scout, making this badge a true test of creativity, independence, and personal growth.
