How to Volunteer as a Parent with Scouts Canada

Parents can participate in day and overnight activities, supporting Scouting adventures while ensuring safe and fun experiences for youth. Follow these steps to get started:

🚀 Step 1: Set Up or Log Into Your MyScouts Account

✔ Each parent must have their own MyScouts account—login with the email provided.
✔ If you don’t have an account, contact your Section Scouter to arrange one.
✔ Sign in under your name (e.g., Mom logs in with her email, Dad with his).

📝 Step 2: Sign the Code of Conduct

✔ Contact your Section Scouter so they can assign a role to your profile.
✔ Log into MyScouts, where you'll be prompted to accept the Code of Conduct.
✔ The Code of Conduct is renewed annually and can be viewed online anytime.

📚 Step 3: Complete Safe Scouting for Parents Training

✔ When staying overnight, parents must complete the "Safe Scouting for Parents" training.
✔ Training takes approximately 30 minutes and is accessed through MyScouts.

✅ How to access the training:
🔹 Log into MyScouts and find Parent Training in the left menu.
🔹 Open the training in a new window, watch the video, and follow the instructions.
🔹 Once complete, the training will be listed under "My Training".

💡 This training only needs to be completed once!

🔍 Step 4: Complete Police Record Check (PRC) & Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)

✔ Required for overnight activities, even if completed elsewhere (e.g., school, coaching).
✔ Toronto residents (postal codes starting with "M") apply via Toronto Police Service (TPS).

📌 First-time volunteers must complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), which includes both PRC and VSS.

🔹 Follow the step-by-step guide available here.
🔹 Visit the Toronto Police PRC/VSS Application and create an account.
🔹 Provide two pieces of government-issued ID (acceptable forms listed on TPS website).
🔹 Contact your Section Scouter or Group Commissioner for the Agency Code.
🔹 Send your VSC results electronically to Scouts Canada using this form, including the URL link from the police site and all required access details for processing.

✅ PRC must be renewed every 3 years via MyBackCheck.
